چکیده

A total of 803 strains of gram-negative nonfermentative and oxidase-positive fermentative bacteria (38 taxa) were investigated for their ability to hydrolyze 53 different fluorogenic 4-methylumbelliferyland 1-naphthylamide-linked substrates within 6 h of incubation. The hydrolysis of 16 fluorogenic substrates showed high separation index values among the tested taxa, was reproducible, and showed good agreement with data in the literature. In combination with other biochemical tests (like carbon substrate utilization tests and classical biochemical tests), hydrolysis profiles can improve the differentiation of gram-negative nonfermentative and oxidase-positive fermentative bacteria.

Detection of l-alanylaminopeptidase activity in microorganisms using fluorogenic self-immolative enzyme substrates.

A series of fluorogenic enzymatic substrates that incorporate a self-immolative spacer were synthesised for the purpose of identifying l-alanylaminopeptidase activity in microorganisms in agar media. These substrates resulted in the generation of fluorescent microorganism colonies with Gram-negative microorganisms.

Expanding the Use of a Fluorogenic Method to Determine Activity and Mode of Action of Bacillus thuringiensis Bacteriocins Against Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria

Previously we described a rapid fluorogenic method to measure the activity of five bacteriocins produced by Mexican strains of Bacillus thuringiensis against B. cereus 183. Here we standardize this method to efficiently determine the activity of bacteriocins against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It was determined that the crucial parameter required to obtain reproducible result...

Applications of fluorophore-containing microbial growth media.

Media containing the fluorogenic compound 8-anilino-1-naphthalene sulfonic acid may be used to discriminate between gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and to differentiate between various species of bacteria. Fluorescent light emitted from colonies of gram-negative bacteria on 8-anilino-1-naphthalene sulfonic acid-containing agar was visually more intense than that on gram-positive bacter...

Biodegradation of Jet Fuel by Three Gram Negative Bacilli Isolated from Kerosene Contaminated Soil

Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination is a major global prevalent issue in the petroleum sector. This research focuses on evaluating biodegradation of three Gram-negative bacilli, isolated from cowpea planted soil, contaminated with kerosene. The Gram negative bacilli strains have been characterized and identified, using MicrobactTM ID24E systems for the identification of Enterobacteriaceae and c...
